The 9 worst foods for fat loss

If your goal is to get rid of that extra stubborn fat around the mid section, get rid of those lingering love handles, or even to make that 6 pack pop, then you need to steer clear of these certain foods.

1 . Flavoured Yogurt

The amount of sugar in flavoured yogurt can be seriously high - you might as well eat a chocolate bar with nearly 30gs of sugar per serve. The solution - make sure you read the sugar content on the tub and stick to the natural greek style yogurt.

2. White rice

White rice is stripped of healthy antioxidants and filling fibre. Most of the calories in white rice comes from the carbs, leaving you feeling hungry as soon as you’re finished eating your rice dish. When eating white rice - your blood sugar will spike and what comes up must come down - leaving you hungry quicker. The solution - stick to brown rice. The slow releasing carb will ensure you stay fuller for longer.

3 . Granola

Granola is one of those ‘healthy’ cereals when made at home - but the prepackaged granola that you pick up at woolies or Coles, can be laced with sugar & fat. Store bought granola for breakfast will provide instant energy but results in an energy level crash. The solution - make it yourself (I will post my healthy version of granola in the weeks to come) alternatively have a bowl of soaked oats

4. Bagels

Bagels are probably the worst type of bread for you! How often do you see a ripped gym goer eating a bagel? One bagel has the equivalence of 6 slices of white bread. Consuming foods high in ‘refined’ (grain products that have been processed by a food manufacturer so that the whole grain is no longer intact) spike insulin levels therefore turn into sugar which gets converted into fat and stored in the body. The solution - eat you’re wholegrains and complex carbs (in the mornings) which will fuel you’re day, leave you feeling more full for longer and help aid fat loss.

5. Fruit based smoothies

Designed to have that healthy image - the truth is simple - fruit smoothies are filled with sugar. Although natural sugar isn’t as bad for you as refinde sugars, whilst trying to shred that excess fat it is best to stay away from fruits. Saying that, you need to pick the right time to have your fruit. Post workout is perfect to spike your insulin getting nutrients to your muscles. Fruit smoothies are also often loaded in calories and often have high fat yogurt, ice cream and even peanut butter - all the good stuff, I know!

6. Dried fruit

You might aswell eat a bag of lollies! The sugar content is through the roof! Dried fruit is calorically dense due to the natural and added sugars. Consumption can hinder weightloss. The solution - Stay away from high sugary fruits.

7. Pasta

Refined pasta loses its fibre during the processing stage, so any nutrients the wheat may have contained will be lost. Refinded grains pass through your body faster, therefore will leave you hungry quicker after consuming them. The solution - When eating pasta - make it fresh! But who has time for that?! Alternatively get a whole grain variety. It will keep you feeling more full for longer!

8. Cereal

Cereals are often portrayed as a ‘healthy’ breakfast, which is true, IF you choose a healthy option. Cereals are loaded with sugars and processed carbs. Have you ever experienced that mid morning slump? That is a combination of processed carbs and a sugar hit. You will leave the house feeling fill, then the sugar will ware off and you will be left feeling hungry and lethargic.

9. Cured meats

Cured meats like salami are high in fat and calories. And they are usually paired with unhealthy foods such as dips, bread and cheese. All which are high in calories. The solution - you’re best to stick to lean cuts of meats such as fish, turkey and chicken.
